What is empirical ethics? A logical next step in the development of practical ethics after the turn to “applied ethics”. It can be both descriptive and normative, and it’s aimed to improve the context sensitivity of ethics.

Empirical ethics combines doing empirical research with philosophical (normative ethical) analysis and reflection.

“in concentrating on questions of how medical decisions should be made, medical ethicists have paid surprisingly little attention to how they are in fact made” (Musschenga 2005).
